Can Curt Hitches C11174 and C11399 Carry 150 lbs Worth of Bike Rack and Bikes
Question:
My questions are related to two trailer hitch receivers, 1 code C11174 for a 2002 BMW 330XI sedan and 2 code C11399 for a 2017 Audi A3 AWD sedan. In each case I want to connect the Curt hitch receiver to a Saris Freedom Superclamp bike rack to carry two Ebikes. The combined weight of the Saris rack and the two bikes is about 150 lbs. Now my questions. 1 Will each of the receivers C11174 and C11399 support the rack and weight specified? 2 Since my rack is not a Thule single vertical center pole rack do I need trailer hitch support straps item 18050 and if so, do I need two straps, one for each of the two vertical poles on my rack? Please Advise

Helpful Expert Reply:
Both the Curt hitches you referenced part numbers # C11174 and # C11399 have a 200 lb tongue weight capacity so they would work well with a bike rack setup that weighs 150 lbs with the Saris Freedom Superclamp EX part # SA4025F. You still have to use the stabilizer strap like part # 18050 since these racks are non-supported loads. One strap would be all that's necessary.
