Recommended Weight Distribution System for Camping Trailer with 600-800 Pound Tongue Weight
Question:
I am purchasing a camping trailer. The rv sales area suggests a hitch with trailer tongue weight of 6-800lbs. I like the comments on the Curt trutrack. Which is the recommended hitch for this size trailer?

When choosing a weight distribution system, the most important factor to consider is the total tongue weight of your setup. This will include both the loaded tongue weight of your trailer as if ready for a trip, along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Ideally, you will want this number to fall somewhere near the middle of the tongue weight capacity range for the weight distribution system you choose.
I recommend using a tongue weight scale like the etrailer # e99044 to verify your trailer's tongue weight when it is fully loaded.
The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C17500 referenced in your question will be a good option if your total tongue weight ends up falling between 800 and 1,000 pounds, which is on the high end of the 600-800 pound estimate that your RV dealer gave you. Both the adjustable shank and 2-5/16 inch chrome hitch ball is included in this system so you will not need to purchase them separately. The Curt TruTrack will do a great job of evenly distributing weight over the axles of your tow vehicle and trailer for improved stability and control. I have attached a demonstration video on this system for you to check out.
If your total tongue weight ends up falling on the lower end of your dealer's estimate, I recommend instead going with the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4 Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET. This system has a tongue weight capacity range of 600 to 1,000 pounds and also includes the needed shank and hitch ball.
I have also attached a video on this system, as well as an article on weight distribution systems that you may find helpful.
