Question:
Good afternoon, my wife and I have purchase our 1st Travel Trailer and need a weight distribution system /sway. I have been checking out what you have and the cost. My trailer will delivered in the middle of May and it give me some time to shop. So I need your expert opinion about the subject weight system. My trailer is a Grand Design Reflection 297rsts and the hitch weight is 795 lbs. the UVW is 7895 and the GVWR is 9995. ****your website is easy to use and very informative btw

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
The 795 pounds is the dry tongue weight and is at a little over 10 percent of the 7,895 pound dry weight of the trailer. Tongue weight is usually 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight so if loaded to the 9,995 pound capacity the tongue weight could be as much as 1,500 pounds. So we have a potential tongue weight range of 795 to 1,500 pounds. Realistically though 15 percent of 9,995 is unlikely.
Based on this the Curt TruTrack system # C17500 could work as long as the total tongue weight is between 800 and 1,000 pounds. I would consider a product that has a wider range such as Equal-I-zer system # EQ37120ET which is rated for 800 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight. Or the Reese Steadi-Flex system # RP66560 rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight (you would also need ball # 19286 ). I have linked videos for all three systems for you.
