Available Hitch Adapter to Allow Use of 2-Inch Bike Rack in 1-1/4-Inch Class I Hitch
Question:
P/N - MT70032 I have a 2015 Chrysler 200 that has a class 1 hitch which is 1 1/4in, my bike rake need a 2 in. will the MT70032 work for this application. Does the adapter change or increase any of the weight limits on the hitch.

Use of any hitch adapter such as the Brophy # HTAD will cause you to lose half of your hitch's rated capacity due to the change in the geometry of the whole system. Because an adapter pushes the actual weight load further away from the hitch, it will put more leverage on it. This means a 200-lb-rated Class I hitch suddenly has only a 100-lb capacity.
I suggest you use a support strap like # 18050 to help stabilize the loaded rack.
The best option is to use a Class I bike rack that needs no adapter or support strap. We offer the lightweight and cost-effective Curt # C18085. You can use this rack in your Class I hitch - no adapter, no support strap. This is my recommendation. We offer a hitch lock # e98879 and cable lock # e98891.
