Trailer Hitch Recommendation that Doesn't Require Drilling for a Georgetown RV on Ford F-53 Chassis
Question:
I need to replace a 3500 pound hitch on a 34 foot Georgetown motorhome I can only guess the reason they put a 3500 lb on a 22K chassis is because Ford rated the chassis 4000 lbs-maybe because it was welded onto to accommodate length of rv. Anyway, I need to pull a car and dolly weighing just over 3600 lbs. Problem is the existing holes are 3: one 2 inches from back, next 2 inches from there and the last another 4 inches from that one. I need something I can attach without drilling since there is another smaller hole forward of all these to which is attached a small metal crossbeam that I see no reason for since the hitch is much sturdier as a crossmember. Can you suggest something and give me the dimensions? Thanks

Any of the RV hitches available are going to require drilling with the exception of Curt hitch # 13703 but it, too, is rated for 3,500 pounds. What I recommend is to have a hitch welded on such as # 41990-07 which fits frame widths up to 44 inches or # 41991-07 that fits frame widths up to 62 inches. Frame width is measured outside to outside from one frame rail to the other.
The hitches will need to be welded on by a professional welder for a nominal fee. The benefit is you will have the capacity you need, a strong connection to the frame, and you won't have to drill any holes.
