Will The Thule CG9 Snow Chains Fit A 225/60R17 Tire On A 2008 Toyota Sienna AWD
Question:
Is the TH2004205104 chain recommended for a 2008 Toyota Sienna AWD, tire size 225/60-R17? Tires on this vehicle are NOT runflat. Owners manual says to use SAE class S type radial tire chains except cable or v-bar chains. I assume that I would use a single pair, mounted on the front wheels.

The Thule CG9 Self-Adjusting, Low-Profile Snow Tire Chains for Passenger Vehicles, part # TH2004205104, are the correct snow chains for your 2008 Toyota Sienna AWD. They have an internal clearance measurement of 9mm, which will classify them as SAE Class S type snow chains.
A SAE Class S snow tire chain means that the minimum sidewall clearance is .59 inches, which is 15mm. If a snow chain has a internal clearance of 15mm or less, they will be classified as a SAE Class S snow chain. The sidewall clearance is needed so that the snow chains will clear any part of the vehicle that is close to the inner and outer sidewall of the tire. The Class S snow chain is a common requirement on newer vehicles that have larger, low-profile tires.
On your 2008 Toyota Sienna AWD, I would recommend that you install the snow chains on the front tires, but you could also install chains on all 4 wheels if you like. This would require purchasing two sets of chains.
I am including links to FAQ pages on snow chains and Thule snow chains.
