To install a fifth wheel on your 2010 GMC Sierra SLE CrewCab with the 5-1/2 foot bed you will need to use a fixed fifth wheel hitch and a Sidewinder to be able to get the needed clearance between the truck cab and the fifth wheel. The Sidewinder will move the pivoting point of your fifth wheel an extra 22 inches away from the vehicles cab.
On trucks that have a bed shorter than 6 feet, if you were to use a fifth wheel hitch with a slider in a truck with a bed that short, you would almost certainly damage the truck or trailer when making a turn. Even when fully slid to the rear, you still will not have enough clearance between the truck cab and the front of the trailer. You may also experience contact with the truck tail gate.
I would recommend the Reese 16K Fifth Wheel Hitch, part # RP30047, or the Reese 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch, part # RP30928. The Reese 20K hitch has the nicer head assembly with the self-latching jaw that completely surrounds the king pin and the wider funnel area for better hookup. I am including a link to the installation instructions for both of the fifth wheel hitches.
As far as the Sidewinder if you will get the make and model of your pin box on your fifth wheel, I can recommend a compatible Sidewinder, or you can use the chart on the Sidewinder FAQ page (see link).
The Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit, part # RP50064-58, will be the correct installation kit for your 2010 GMC Sierra with the 5-1/2 foot bed. It is a custom kit which means it will use vehicle specific brackets that mount to existing holes on your frame and it minimizes drilling and measuring. The custom kit will install in half the time of the universal kit. I am also including a link to the installation instructions of the Reese custom installation kit.
