Wiring Functions for Hopkins 7-Way Trailer Side Connector
Question:
Trying to determine the correct color correspondence for hooking up the 7-way Hopkins trailer connection to my Pace American cargo trailer. When I hooked up the 7-way I dont have all functions. Yellow wire on my old 7 way connection wasnt auxiliary wire.

Wire colors are rarely the same from trailer to trailer or vehicle to vehicle so you have to wire things up by function. I have included a picture showing the functions of Hopkins 7-Way # H20046 for you.
On the trailer side there are a couple of ways you can determine the wire functions. First, you could manually follow each wire from the front of the trailer back to where it terminates. Or second, you could use a separate 12 volt battery and apply power to each of the wires and see what lights up or powers on. Then it is just a matter of matching the function of that wire to the corresponding wire from the new 7-Way.
On the new 7-Way the yellow auxiliary wire goes to the center post which is often times used as the reverse light circuit and not aux power. Once you have all of the trailer side wiring functions figured out I recommend using a junction box, # 38656, which has labeled terminals which will help to avoid any future issues with identifying wire function.
