Installing Brake Controller Using Factory Harness on 2007 Toyota Tundra

Question:

2007 Tundra. I am hooking up a brake controller. The wire harness included with the truck has one green wire that is not called for in the instructins to hook up with the controller wires. What do I do with it and do I need to put a fuse in line with the hot wires

Expert Reply:

The green wire you describe is for an illumination circuit and is not needed. You can confirm this if you wish by using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 on the green wire. This wire should only show voltage when the vehicle headlights are switched on. Since your Tundra features the factory tow package wiring, the circuit providing power for the brake controller is already protected. No additional fuse is needed.

I have provided a link to our Brake Controller FAQ that features additional information that you might find helpful.
