For your 2006 Dodge Dakota, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2" # 75251 does not have any clearance issues with the spare tire. This is a very nice square tube receiver with powdercoat over e-base for superiour rust protection. You might take a look at the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II - 2" Hitches
Item # BX88224
If you will be using this hitch receiver for towing, I recommend using the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black # BWTS10037B. This ball mount will give you adjustability, two hitch ball options, and a stowing ability to give you a clean look when not in use, not to mention saving your shins when you are accessing the tail gate.
If you need trailer wiring, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118323. This is a simple plug and play harness that connects to your factory wiring behind each tail light. This will give you a 4-way flat connector for a trailer or wired accessory.
