Installing a Brake Controller on a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country Van

Question:

I have a 2016 Town and Country Van and plan to install the controller 58-8. Where will I find the connector for this item in my van? Thanks.

The 2016 Chrysler Town and Country did not come with a factory installed tow package and a 7-way trailer connector. You will have to hardwire in a 7-way and the all the wiring so you can install your controller. None of the wiring is pre-installed on this model vehicle.

The first thing you will need to do is wire in a 4-way flat trailer plug if you have not already done so. You will need a wiring harness, I recommend the Curt T-One harness, # C56331. This harness is custom-fit to your 2016 Town and Country. I have included an installation video where we installed this wiring harness on a 2016 Town and Country for you to review.

After the 4-way is installed, you will need to install a 7-way connector and the wiring you will need to install a brake controller. We offer a kit, # ETBC7, that includes the 7-way connector, wiring, electrical parts, and installation hardware that is needed to install your brake controller. We have a video of the # ETBC7 kit being installed on a 2014 Dodge Caravan. The installation will be the same on your vehicle.

Finally, you will have to install the brake controller. Once you have run all the wiring from the # ETBC7 kit in to the cab of your van, you will have 4 wires on the back of the controller you will have to wire. The 12-volt power (BLACK) wire will power the brake controller. The brake signal (BLUE) wire will connect to the wiring that will connect the 7-way connecter on your vehicle to the trailer plug. The brake light switch (RED) wire will connect to the Town and Country's brake light switch and the ground (WHITE) wire will connect to a clean metal surface in you cab.

I have included a couple articles that help explain installing a brake controller from scratch and information on the # ETBC7 kit. If you have any further questions please feel free to reach back out to me anytime and I would be more than happy to further assist you.
