Can This Unit Be Installed With An Auxiliary Switch To Function When Truck Is Off?

Question:

Can the unit be left on between power cycles such that I can turn it on via an aux switch on my dash, instead of flipping the switch on the unit itself?

The Performance Tool 12-Volt Heater and Defroster can be left on between power cycles with an auxiliary switch if you desire. It will draw about 13 amps at 12 volts which equals out to about 156 watts, so you will want to take that into consideration for your application. I don't recommend leaving it on for long periods of time as it will eventually drain your vehicle battery and the manufacturer states that the heater shouldn't be ran for more than 20 minutes at a time with 5 minutes in between. I also recommend having a fuse in line of your system to protect your vehicle and the unit itself.

For a socket, you can use the Hopkins 12-Volt Power Socket with Power Wire and Fuse Assembly # HM55115 and for a switch you can use the Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans # D16740.
