Troubleshooting Trailer Sway When Using Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System

Question:

I have a 34 Travel Trailer Rockwood Windjammer 3008W, TV is a 2008 Titan 4X4 w/ Tow package, I am running a Curt TruTrack WD system, and still get sway at highway speeds. I had the Timbren system installed prior to the WD hitch set up, could this impact the setup/ sway control? The TV rides level, just get occasional sway at highway speeds. Please offer any suggestions.

Installing Timbren springs shouldn't cause your trailer to sway. If your truck and trailer are already level then I would guess the sway is caused by the trailer being overloaded or not properly loaded. Or your weight distribution isn't rated high enough.

I researched your trailer and the maximum loaded weight is just under 9,000 pounds and your maximum tongue weight is a little less than 1,100 pounds.

You will want the majority of a trailer's weight to be in the front of the trailer. Overloading the rear will increase sway. Also, the weight distribution system you're using is rated for 1,000 pounds tongue weight. If you're loading your trailer to its maximum and you're carrying weight in the back of your Titan behind the rear axle then you're likely exceeding the system's capacity.

I suggest using a tongue weight scale, # e99044, to determine your trailer's tongue weight when it is loaded and ready to tow. Then you'll need to add that to the amount of weight you have in the back of the truck behind the rear axle. If this is more than the 1,000 pounds your Curt system can handle then you'll either need to lighten the load or upgrade the weight distribution to something like the Curt TruTrack # C17501 rated for 1,500 pounds.
