For your 2016 Ram 1500 with 5-1/2 foot bed without EcoDiesel Engine, the Reese Semi-Custom Base Rail and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - Dodge Ram 1500, # RP30035-386 will not fit due to your factory air suspension. The kit you will need is the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches, # RP50142-58, which will fit models with air suspension systems.

The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Wiring Harness # RP30033, will fit these rails and will work well. If your 38 foot by 8 ft trailer is under 22,000 lbs this hitch will work great.

With your 5-1/2 foot bed, the use of a standard hitch like this is recommended and a revolution pinbox or a sidewinder is required to give you adequate clearance to protect your truck cab and your trailer when turning. The sidewinder moves the pivot point of the trailer with a rotating turret and will use a custom wedge like # SWW-03 at the hitch.
