What Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch Will Fit On A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD With 6-1/2 Foot Bed
Question:
Have 2006 Chevy 2500HD with 66 long bed. Have bought 30035 rail kit from you and am trying to use the 15K Reese Fifth Wheel that came with my camper in this truck. It was in an 96 model Chevy with an 8 bed, its a fixed model that doesnt slide. Need to know if it will work in the 06 model truck. Thanks

You will need to use a slider hitch on your 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with 6-1/2 foot bed. The slider hitch will allow the extra clearance that is needed to keep the front of the fifth wheel trailer from contacting the cab of the vehicle on sharp turns.
If you have the 15K Reese Select Series hitch and not the Reese Pro Series, you will be able to take the head off of your fifth wheel hitch and attach it to the Reese Square Tube Slider for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # RP30048. This will give you a square tube slider hitch that will slide an additional 10 inches toward the tailgate of your vehicle and give you the necessary clearance. It will also attach to your Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit, part # RP30035.
If your 15K Reese hitch is a Pro Series model, you will need the Reese Fifth Wheel Slider, part # RP50024. You will attach your 15K fifth wheel head to the slider and use in the Reese universal installation kit # RP30035.
If you need to add a 7-Way connector to the bed of your vehicle I would recommend the Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck 90 Degree Wiring Harness, part # 50-97-410. This harness will connect inline to your existing wiring harness and give you an additional 7-Way in the bed of your vehicle. The 7-way at the rear of your vehicle will be still be functional.
I am including links to the installation instructions on the Reese universal installation kit, the Reese round tube slider, and the Reese pro series slider.
