Recommended Bike Rack to Carry Two Bikes on 2012 Ford Fiesta Hatchback and 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Hi, Im looking to purchase either a trunk rack or a hitch set up for my 2012 Ford Fiesta SES with Spoiler identical spoiler to the ST. Im between the compatible Hollywood Trunk Rack and a hitch set up. This will be for a Trek Fuel 90 Fully and a womens bike Euro-style. Ideally, Id like to keep this rack for a long time and it should be universal enough to #1 fit on my wifes 2010 Jetta SE and #2 on most sedans. Please let me know if theres a solution out there. Thank you.

Hitch mount vs. trunk mount can be tough. Especially if you don't already have the hitch receiver. The hitch mount will be much more stable and safer for your vehicle, but a trunk mount is much more economical. The Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top # HRF2 is a great trunk mount especially for your hatchback. But if you're planning to keep the rack for a long time it might not be a great fit for your next car. Also, if you're carrying the bikes for long distances it could damge your car.

For a long term rack I suggest a hitch mount. As long as whatever car you own has a hitch you can use it. Both your 2012 Ford Fiesta and 2010 VW Jetta use Class I, 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receivers. So any Class I rack will fit. Another good idea is to look at a rack that will fit Class I, II, and III so that no matter the hitch size on future vehicles you can use the same bike rack.

If you need trailer hitch receivers on each car, for the Ford I recommend the Curt # C11067 and for the Jetta # C11474. Both are confirmed to fit the respective vehicle and I've attached installation videos on each for you. Additionally, Curt requires that you use a stabilizing strap, part # 18050, when carrying a bike rack per their warranty.

For a great bike rack that will last for you I suggest the Thule Helium Pro # TH9042PRO. The rack uses two layers of cushion to reduce vibration, includes a hitch lock and cable lock, and only weighs 21 pounds making it easy to move from your Fiesta to your Jetta. It is also compatible with Class I, II, and III hitch receivers.

Your wife's Euro-style will likely not ride level on a hanging bike rack. You can use the Kuat Ubar Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01. This installs on the bike to create a straight cross tube so the bike will ride level.
