Tow Bar Lighting Kit for 2011 Chevy Silverado and Battery Charge Wire

Question:

Electrical question on connecting/wiring a towed vehicle. 2008 Jayco 28foot MH, towing 2011 Silverado. Using 7 wire at MH, connecting to 7 wire plug on toad. do i need 7 wire, i think so- r turn, l turn operates brakes tail, charging power, ground, trailer brakes and a spare 1. Want to add power wire from charging system of MH to connect to toad battery and keep battery charged. using aux breaking system and need a full battery all the time Do I need a diode in this Power wire to prevent electrical back feed if toad is started and connected to MH? 2. Driving lights: I see every video shows connecting the diodes in or around tail light housings. Is there a location that I can connect without running wire entire length of frame? My purpose is to illuminate all running lights, tail lights, side markers, and front parking lights. Here is my reason, I see a lot of toads with only tail lights and they have poor side visibility. By lighting all side markers it would be more visible. 3. Which diodes would you recommend, Road master of Hopkins, big price difference, I assume they both do the same thing. Your thoughts please.

You certainly can use a 7-way to 7-way for applying the towed vehicle brakes but you won't end up using all of the circuits. Also, the brake circuit for the towed vehicle will not be carried through the 7-way as that is typically not something that gets wired through that harness. A diode wouldn't be needed on the charge wire either. We do recommend a circuit breaker on the circuit though like what the part # RM-156-25 comes with.

Since you have a 7-way the best diode kit for your application will be the part # RM-15247 which has a 7-way on one end and has the diodes and needed wiring. This won't activate your third brake light though.
