Inexpensive Tire Chains for a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with 235/70-16 Tires

Question:

chains or cables for 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe Car has 235-70x16 tires, front wheel drive only. What do you recommend for very occasional use cables or chains as I want something easy to install i.e just me installing on road shoulder and that stays on at highway speeds on pavement? No off-road use and only highway to get to Lake Tahoe. I want something thats under $75 with shipping too. Easy installation is my first priority as I can drive in snow-ice.

You can use tire chains or cables on your 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. For your stated budget I recommend cables # TC2029. I find that the cables are easier to install than regular chains; especially if you add the rubber adjusters # TCMA2 to keep the chains centered and tight.

There are chains that are much, much easier to put on but they cost a lot more. There are no chains or cables that are going to allow you to travel at highway speeds. The recommended cables above have a 30 mile an hour speed rating. If the roads are bad enough to necessitate chains then even 30 might be too fast.

For additional information I looked at the vehicle owner's manual online. The owner's manual states the following:

When using tire chains, attach them to the drive wheels as follows.

2WD : Front wheels
AWD : All four wheels

In some unavoidable circumstances, install them on only the front wheels, not the rear wheels. Be sure that the chains are installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. To minimize tire and chain wear, do not continue to use tire chains when they are no longer needed.
