Fifth Wheel Slider Hitch Recommendation for 2006 Chevy Silverado Short Bed

Question:

I have a 06 2500 Chevy shortbed and have a gooseneck ball installed that flips up when used. Im buying a 5th camper for the first time. I did the measuring that was half the width of the camper which is 4ft or 48inches and the cab distance to the ball which was 42 inches. Do I need an extender? Also trying to determine the height without the camper yet?

Here is the formula to use to determine if you have clearance to make tight turns:

(A + B) - C = Clearance
A = Distance from the gooseneck ball to the truck cab
B = Offset used (0 since you don't have one)
C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2.

(42+0) - 48 = -6 inches.

So you would not have enough clearance and realistically there isn't a gooseneck offset adapter that would give you the needed clearance.

Only solution is to replace gooseneck hitch in truck bed with fifth wheel so that you can use slider hitch. For a slider hitch the Reese Hitch part # RP30075 is an economical option that would work well. For fifth wheel rails you would want the custom install kit part # RP50064-58 which will minimize drilling and install time when compared to a universal kit.
