Curt Trailer Hitch For 1999 Honda Civic Hatchback

Question:

Hi. I have a 99 Civic Hatchback 5spd that Id like to set up for towing. Could you explain to me this product, the Curt 11209? How is the ground clearance on this already low-slung car? I dont have plans for a bike rack, just a light trailer for one dirtbike. Thanks in advance for your help!

The # C11209 measures 6-1/8 inch of clearance from the mounting surface on the frame to the bottom of the safety chain loops under the hitch receiver opening. You can measure from the frame downward to see where you will wind up with the bottom of the hitch.

This is a Class l hitch, it has a 2,000-lb towing capacity and a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. You will want to make sure you do not exceed the towing capacity of your Civic. Curt requires that a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 is used for all non-trailer loads like bike racks or other accessories or it will void the warranty.

For a drawbar I recommend part # C45019. This has a 5/8-inch rise or 1-1/4 inch drop. For a hitch pin and clip I recommend part # F-4.

For a 2-inch hitch ball I recommend part # 19258, and for a 1-7/8 inch ball you can use part # 19256.

If you need a trailer harness I recommend part # 119178KIT. This includes a circuit tester which helps identify the wires you need to connect the trailer harness. I attached a link to an installation video for this harness on a Civic you can check out.
