Brake Controller Recommendation to Replace Integrated Controller of 2012 Dodge Ram 2500

Question:

I have a 2012 Ram 2500 with a built in factory trailer brake controller. I have had issues with the controller for over 1 ear and dealer cannot resolve the issue. I am looking for a brake controller to replace the factory installed unit. I have a 14foot Carmate construction trailer with electric brakes. I saw the 2012 Dodge Ram Pickup Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional. I am looking to disconnect the factory unit and replace it. Will this unit function with the displays and computer in the truck or is it completely separate? . does this come with the pigtail to connect to the vehicles wiring harness or is that separate? Thank you,

The P3 brake controller part # 90195 would be a great option for your 2012 Dodge Ram 2500. This is one of the nicest controllers on the market because of how well it works, how reliable it is, and how easy it is to use.

The needed harness for this controller and your truck is the part # 3021-P which will plug in under the dash.

To install an aftermarket brake control you will have to disconnect the ITBM. This will turn on a warning lamp on the instrument cluster. In order to disconnect the ITBM and not get the warning lamp, your local Dodge dealer will have to reconfigure the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), of the truck. Once the TIPM has been reconfigured, and the ITBM has been unplugged, you can use a vehicle specific brake control harness that I mentioned
