What Parts Are Needed To Tow A 2006 Dodge Ram

Question:

Does this kit include everything I need to tow my pick up excluding a light page or is this just the mounting bracket for another piece that I would need to buy.

To tow your 2006 Dodge Ram you will need a tow bar, base plate kit, safety cables, and wiring for lights on your tow vehicle.

The Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 277-1A, is the base plate kit that will fit a 2006 to 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab and 2003 to 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500. These are just the brackets that will mount on your vehicle and be used to connect the tow bar to your vehicle.

The tow bar I would recommend is the Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 Tow Bar # RM-422. This tow bar is designed for the full size trucks like your 2006 Dodge Ram and has a weight capacity of 10,000 lbs.

For the safety cables I would recommend the Roadmaster 80" Coiled Safety Cables - Double Hook - 10,000 lbs # RM-653.

For lighting, you can wire your vehicle using Roadmaster Universal Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154. The other option would be to use Magnetic Towing Light Kit # RM-2120, which are lights that attach to your vehicle using magnets. If you are going to be towing your Dodge Ram often I would recommend using # RM-154, as you would just plug in your vehicle after the initial install.

I am sending a video link to the # RM-154 wiring kit being installed on a Jeep Liberty. The vehicle is different but the wiring installation is the same.

When flat towing a vehicle you will want to check your owners manual or with the manufacturer for instructions on the proper procedure for towing your 2006 Dodge Ram, because some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect, or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed.
