Installing a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2011 Ford Escape with Factory Tow Package
Question:
o you know if the 2011 Escape has the wiring adapter under the panel to accept Voyager Electronic Brake Control? Dealer said it was trailer towing ready. If it does, where is it exactly? Thank you.

I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha about a brake controller wiring adapter for a 2011 Ford Escape with the Trailer Tow Package. He did not have specific information regarding the 2011 models, but historically the Ford Escape has been a hardwire only model. This means that you would first need a 4-Way wiring harness.
With the factory tow package, you would use the Draw-Tite Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118251. Without a tow package, you would use the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118551. If your Escape already has a 4-Way flat trailer connector, you will not need either one. I have included a link to the installation details and video installs below.
With a 4-Way installed, you would then need to add a 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit provides a 7-Way and 4-Way at the rear of the vehicle along with the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a brake controller. I have included a link below to an FAQ article on installing a brake controller from scratch, along with a video showing the installation of an ETBC7 kit.
