How to Test to Identify 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Vehicle Wire That Carries Dome Light Signal

Purchased the westin lighted running boards, need help finding the dome light wire on passenger side of truck. 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD extended cab.

Since auto makers are not always consistent with wire colors used in production your best option is to test the wires you have found using a circuit tester such as # PTW2993. If you can have a helper switch the dome light on and off while you test you can identify the correct wire.
It is also possible to tie into the switch at the door that allows the dome light to come on when the door is opened.
And a third option is if the dome light is on its own fuse you could tap in at the fuse location as well, using a fuse tap # F2526. But if the dome light shares a fuse with anything else then the running board lights would come on when that circuit is energized.
