Weight Distribution with Sway Control To Pull Scamp 16 Foot Trailer w/ 1991 Jeep Cherokee

Question:

I am buying a Scamp 16 foot trailer est. 1750 pounds plus which I plan to pull with 1991 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 L straight six. Already have a Valley receiver #73610. I am thinking I should get WDH with sway control. What would you recommend? Will Reese Light Duty work with this set up? Recommend anything else? Thanks

Expert Reply:

The Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution, part # 66557 that you were looking at would be an excellent option as long as the total tongue weight of your towing setup does not exceed 400 lbs (which it shouldn't). The total tongue weight includes the tongue weight of the trailer when it is loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of any cargo loaded in the back of your Jeep. This system does not include a hitch ball. For a 2 inch ball, you can use part # 63845. This system combines weight distribution with effective sway control prevention. Even though your Scamp is pretty small for a travel trailer, it'll still be susceptible to trailer sway caused by cross winds or turbulence from passing traffic. The Light Duty system will be very effective at counteracting that.

I have added a link to the installation instructions for the system I mentioned for you to look over, as well as some more information about weight distribution.
