The correct Curt brake controller install harness you will need for your 2006 Jeep Commander is the part # C51515 that you referenced.

I would recommend you go with a proportional brake controller with it like the Curt Triflex part # C24VV as it will sense the amount of braking you are applying with your vehicle and will provide a proportional amount of braking power to the trailer.

Some models will require a wiring kit to run wire to the battery. This may require drilling a hole in the firewall to run the wire. You may use kit # 5506 which includes 20, 30, and 40 amp breakers. I attached an install video that shows how this installs on a similar 2010 Jeep Commander.
