Recommended Trailer Hitch, Trailer Lighting and Tail Light Kit for Flat Towing a 2014 Honda CR-V
Question:
Hi We just got a 2014 Honda Crv Touring which has all Led lights. I want to connect both the tow light system and trailer light system...have any type of installation been tried and proved for this? Ive heard that connecting to existing lights can sometimes mess up the computer...What do you suggest? Thanks I currently have a demco tow with air force one brake system and will be transfering it to new vehicle.

Good news, I can help get your 2014 Honda CR-V wired up with tow bar wiring and trailer lighting.
I spoke with my contact at Roadmaster who has done this before and told me that you will just need to install the # RM-15267 and the # C56158. The trailer wiring connector has its own plug in the cargo area of your vehicle see image and attached video for install location. The tow bar wiring will need to be run like the attached diagram to your vehicles separate tail light wiring. With the diodes in place, they will prevent any back feeding and preserve the computer if something were to surge.
I like the # RM-15267 kit because it includes the 6-pole and the coiled cord which you will need to span the power from the RV to the towed car. If you already have these then I recommend the # RM-152.
Some additional products you may need to consider when flat towing are:
Baseplate: # RM-521567-5 you will need the # RM-032 adapter to be compatible with your Demco Towbar
Safety Cables: # RM-643
High/Low adapter: See attached link for proper height in selecting adapter
Some other important things to know about flat towing your CR-V are that it does look like you will need to pull a fuse. You will want to consult the owners manual to confirm. To make this as easy as flipping a switch you can use fuse bypass # RM76511. If it states to pull the #19 ACC radio fuse and the #20 ACC key lock fuse, use part # RM76512.
To allow the braking system to work properly you will also want to install 12 volt outlet kit # RM-9332. A brake light relay # RM-88400 will still be required when using the SMI Air Force One # SM99243. Your brake light switch wire color should be blue in color.
For a trailer hitch for your 2014 CR-V, I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75742, because of its higher weight capacity and low price point. A great ball mount kit for 2 inch hitches is our # 989900. This kit will include the most common ball mounts and balls sizes we have found that are used by customers when towing, and includes a handy carrying case.
I have linked all the above mentioned products as well as some Help Articles and installation videos to this page for your convenience.
