7-Way Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2001 Nissan Xterra with 4-Way
Question:
Hello, I need to convert the existing 4 pin on on my 2001 Nissan Xterra to a 7 way. I dont need brakes, has surge brakes, but I do need power to charge the batts. Is there a simple plug in option, or am I looking at going universal and adapting something to work? Any help would be appreciated.

What you are going to need is the 4-way to 7-way adapter part # 37185 which will convert the taillight signals of the 4-way to a 7-way and then you would need to run the power wire from the 7-way to the battery of your Xterra with 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 through a circuit breaker like part # 9510.
This will be relatively painless, but you will need to route the wire underneath your vehicle to the battery avoiding any hot areas that might melt the wires or moving parts that might otherwise damage it.
There isn't a plug in 7-way available for your vehicle that would allow you to easily just plug in a 7-way in place of your 4-way.
