How to Identify Reverse Light Wire on 2012 Toyota Sienna
Question:
I am installing the ETBC7 and the 2005 Toyota sienna video does not show where to tap into the reverse light circuit for the purple wire on the 7 way plug. Where do I connect the purple wire to the reverse light circuit?

Expert Reply:
Vehicle wire colors can vary from year to year and even within one production run so the best way to find the taillight wire that carries the reverse light signal on your Toyota Sienna is to test using a circuit tester like the one included in the # ETBC7 kit or one like # PTW2993.
Have a competent helper carefully shift the car into reverse with a foot on the brake pedal (and the emergency brake engaged for safety) while you apply the tester to the wires leading to the taillight.
When the tester reacts, you have the reverse light wire. If you can identify which bulb in the taillight lights up in reverse, you may also be able to simply trace which wire feeds that bulb. That will connect to the purple wire on the 7-way to provide a reverse light signal for either backup lights or a reverse lockout coupler.
