What do I Need to Operate the Trailer Brakes Behind a 2000 Ford F250 With Factory 7-Way
Question:
Will the factory installed seven way plug operate electric trailer brakes or do I need to install a separate brake control in the cab?

You will need a brake controller in order to send brake power through the 7-Way to the trailer brakes. With a factory 7-Way, you will have a brake controller port underneath the dash that will make installing a brake controller a snap.
I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 and the # 3035-P wiring harness for your F-250. The wiring harness plugs into the port in your F-250 and connects to the back of the P2. I have added a link to the kit as well as the instructions and a video of this kit being installed on a 2001 F-150 that will give you a good ides of how the install will go.
I have also added a link to a brake controller FAQ so you can learn more about brake controllers and how they work.
