Fix for Exhaust Rattle After Installing the # C11000 Hitch on a 2010 Volkswagen GTI
Question:
I have read on Volkswagen forums about the exhaust rattling against this hitch. Can you confirm if this is a problem or if there is a fix for it? thanks

Exhaust rattles do occur on some vehicles. I have not had the opportunity to install this hitch on the GTI yet so I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite. He stated that the exhaust was taken into account when designing the hitch and that they have had no complaints about exhaust rattles from customers who have installed the hitch.
The instructions for the # C11000 hitch show that hitch will be sandwiched between the rear exhaust hanger and the vehicle frame member. This repositioning should provide clearance for the exhaust.
If you did notice a rattle once the hitch is installed there is an easy fix that usually works. Just remove the exhaust hanger closest to the spot where the tailpipe is making contact with the hitch and bend it slightly. A box end wrench or piece of pipe is a good tool to use. Take a look at the FAQ article I have linked to that explains this further.
Once the hanger is bent slightly reinstall the rubber hanger and the pipe will be positioned far enough from the hitch to avoid further rattles.
