Capacities and Dimensions of the Curt and Valley Dual Receiver, Multi-Purpose Drawbars
Question:
I like the Swagman pass through bike racks but dont like the decrease in tongue weight. Is there a dual mount draw bar that 1 wont decrease a tongue weight from 500# to 350#, 2 has the lengthened draw bar to provide clearance, and 3 has a of 2 or so? Thanks

We have the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2 inch Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers, # D210. This draw bar has a 12-1/2 inch length from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. It measures 7-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the top receivers hitch pin hole. The ball mount portion has a 2-1/4 inch drop. The receiver has a 6 inch rise. The entire unit rated for 7500 pounds gross trailer weight and 750 pounds tongue weight, but the receiver portion is limited to 350 pounds of tongue weight.
When using this draw bar, you have to account for the tongue weight of the trailer and the weight of a bike rack or carrier plus its bikes or cargo. So if your trailers tongue weight is 350 pounds, the bike rack weighs 40 pounds, and the bikes weigh 60 pounds total, that is 450 pounds. In this scenario you would be able to use either draw bar. But the limiting factor is the lowest rated component. If your trailer hitch or vehicle are rated lower then you must stay within those capacities.
