What Bike Rack Is Available To Carry Two 50 lb. Bikes On A 1995 Honda Civic

Question:

I am having the hardest time finding a trunk or hitch mount rack that can handle two heavy 50lbs each townie bikes with step through frames halfway between classic mens and ladies, but not a horizontal top tube and 3 fat tires. At least one of those descriptors rules out each rack Ive considered trunk or hitch, platform or hanging, from Yakima, Thule, or Saris. If its to be a hitch, at least Ive not yet installed one, so there is the freedom to spec Class 1-3 and size 1-1/4-2. This is to go on a 95 Honda Civic Si 3-door, which does limit hitch designs. Help!

There will be no trunk bike rack that will be able to handle two 50 lbs. bikes on your 1995 Honda Civic Si 3-door.

The only hitch I have for your vehicle is a Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, # 11209. It has a tongue weight rating of 200 lbs. The Curt hitch also requires use of a Curt Bike Rack Stabilizing Strap, # 18050, on any non-trailer loads, like a bike rack on this hitch.

This strap will attach to the bike rack and the other end to the vehicles trunk lip. It gives added support and stability to the bike rack and keeps the movement of the bike rack to a minimum, which puts less stress on the hitch.

In the hitch bike racks for a Class I hitch I have a few that have a maximum weight capacity of 100 lbs. for two bikes. You would have to make sure not to exceed the total bike rack capacity of 100 lbs.

The Kuat Beta Aluminum Rack, # B202-114, has a maximum weight capacity of 100 lbs.
