How to Install a Transmission Cooler on a 2005 Ford Expedition

Question:

I have a 2005 expedition and would like to install cooler D13502. I also ordered HH41417 Fitting Kit to help with the install. the transmission lines plug directly in to the radiator with no threads. How can I hook this cooler up? Thanks

The lines you traced from your transmission run to a small transmission cooler built into the radiator. It is a separate compartment from the engine coolant that runs through the rest of the radiator. You can cut these lines if you do not wish to use the factory cooler but I do not recommend it because transmission fluid cannot be overcooled.

Most people retain this factory cooler. The fluid path needs to flow from transmission, to factory cooler, to your new Derale cooler and back to the transmission.

Disconnect the return line from the transmission and using the fittings and clamps, connect it to one of the tubes on the Derale cooler. From the other tube on the Derale cooler, route the new line back to the return port on your transmission. I have included links to some FAQ articles on transmission coolers for you.
