Recommended Tire Chains for 1997 Dodge Ram Pickup

Question:

I have a 4 wheel drive Dodge Ram truck that I intend to use for plowing deep snow. Do I need chains for both front and rear or will one set of chains do the job

Tire chains are generally best used on all four tires of 4x4 vehicles so long as the auto maker does not restrict use for any reason. Some tire sizes may affect the fit of chains on a vehicle if clearance in the wheel wells is limited. The best way to start is to check your truck owner's manual for any guidance regarding use of tire chains. I checked the Dodge website but they do not keep manuals for older trucks online; just have a look at your manual.

If you can use chains on both front and rear tires this will give you not only improved traction, but also better steering and braking performance.

Once you've checked your manual you can use the linked page to review tire chains for each of the three stock tire sizes offered on your truck. Just click on your tire size to see the chains that fit. The chains you referenced, Titan V-Bar Link Tire Chains # TC2821CAM, fit the 245/75-16 tire size, the widest stock size offered. These will provide excellent bite on ice and deep snow. If you'll be plowing off-road, then a better option is the Glacier Mud Service Snow Tire Chains # PWH2437S.
