High Capacity Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a Service Body Truck Built on a 2001 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I am going to be buying a 2001 Chevy 2500HD with a Knapheide service body. It currently just has a ball through the step bumper of the service body. Is there a class 4 or 5 receiver hitch that will work with that type of body? I know I can get a class 3 bolt on but I am thinking I might want to have a higher tow and tongue weight rating. Thanks

For service body trucks there really isn't a custom fit application available, but I do have a solution for you that will give you a high capacity hitch.

I spoke to my contacts at Curt and Reese and the only styles of hitches that can be made to fit a service body truck like yours are multi-fit RV hitches like the # 41990 that has a 16k capacity. This is a weld on hitch that would require either the 7 inch drop brackets part # 4907 or the 16 inch brackets part # 4916.
