Trailer Hitch And Bike Carrier For 2016 Ford Mustang Convertible

Question:

Is there a hitch that will support a bicycle rack for a 2016 Mustang rag top? I tried to have one installed at the local U-Haul. The gentleman told me he had recently installed one on a 2015 Mustang convertible and he would have no trouble installing one on my 2016 ragtop. An hour and a half later, he told me that Ford had moved the position of an electrical box on the 2016 Mustang convertible and that it would be impossible to install a hitch for a bicycle rack. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you very much.

The trailer hitches available for your 2016 Mustang Convertible are Class l hitches.

I recommend the Draw-Tite Hitch, part # 24928. This Class l hitch has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. This is a simple bolt-on installation and requires no drilling. I have attached a installation instructions you can check out.

The bike carrier I recommend is the Thule Camber, part # TH9058. This is a 2-bike carrier that has a weight capacity of 75 lbs.

For a hitch lock that will secure the bike carrier to the hitch I recommend part # THSTL2.

If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance.
