Lock Recommendations for a Collar-Lok Style Trailer Coupler
Question:
Im sure you get this question often, but .....What is the best coupler lock for a 2inch sleeve style coupler that will fit good and tight. Made totally of steel, preferably tool steel not aluminum or pot metal ? I ve tried the Fastway and Trimax universal locks and I dont like the way they fit a sleeve coupler. They both fit too loose and seem a pry bar would take them off very quickly. Thanks for your time.

It sounds like you have a Collar-Lok coupler such as # BD028244. For that type of coupler you could use lock # BLTL-23. The body is aluminum but the pin inside that goes way up into the coupler is steel. It fits 2-5/16 inch Collar-Lok couplers. For 2 inch models use # BLTL-22.
Another option, if your coupler has the pin behind the collar to keep the collar from sliding back, is to use a lock such as # e98888 in place of the pin. This would prevent the collar from opening all the way. Or, you could use both types for the most protection!
Given enough time and determination any lock can be defeated. Usually the mere presence of a lock is enough to make a would-be thief move on to an easier target. And if they say 2 locks on the same coupler, they wouldn't even give it a second look.
