Troubleshooting Electric Trailer Brakes Engage When 1991 Dodge Ram Lights are Turned On
Question:
When i turn lights on electric brakes ar applied. Do i need a diode in line somewhwer? 1991 dodge ram 250. Tks.

This sounds like the red wire on the brake controller is not connected where it should be, and the brake controller thinks you are stepping on the brake when you put the lights on. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993, or a multimeter to find the correct wire on the brake switch above the brake pedal. You need the wire that carries a signal ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed. It should not carry any signal at any other time. So, if the wire shows a signal when the blinkers are on or when you turn the vehicle lights on, it is the wrong wire.
