When it comes to a hitch for your 2007 BMW X3, I recommend going with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 13573. This hitch will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening, 350 lb tongue weight and 3,500 lb towing capacity, and is our most economical hitch option for your X3. I have attached a video of this hitch being installed on a 2009 X3 for you.

I'm assuming that your X3 isn't currently equipped with any trailer wiring so you will want to start out by installing the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236.

In addition, you will also need to install the Universal Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit includes everything you need to install an electric trailer brake controller and 7-way connector. I have included a picture, as well as a help article, for you.

Last, but not least, is the brake controller. For this I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. The P3 is also our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
