Flat towing a vehicle behind a motorhome requires 5 basic components: a tow bar, safety cables, and a lighting solution, base plates and supplementary braking system for the toad. You may care to glance at the linked article that covers each of these in detail. We also always suggest checking your owner's manual for any guidance related to flat towing the vehicle.
I recommend staying with one brand of base plate and tow bar since doing so avoids the added cost and complexity of the adapters that are needed to match up parts from different manufacturers.
Let's start with base plates for your Equinox. I recommend Blue Ox base plates # BX1689 since they work on models with or without the Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Air Shutters, or brush guard features. These, like all others, require some trimming of the air dam and bumper cover, as well as a bit of drilling. An installation video for a 2012 Equinox is linked for your review.
For your tow bar I suggest the Blue Ox Alpha # BX7380 for its self-aligning design and included safety cables, which saves you that one expense.
For a lighting solution I suggest the Hopkins custom-fit harness # HM56108 which is a simple plug-in installation that requires no cutting into your wiring. Since your Equinox requires that you pull fuses when you flat tow it you might want to add a fuse bypass to simplify getting the car ready to tow; use part # RM76511 and all you'll have to do is flip a switch. An installation video is included for you.
Last, for a braking system you can use the portable Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR along with 12V power outlet kit # RM-9332.
