Can Trailer With Gross Weigh Capacity Of 3,500 Lbs Be Used With Class lll RV Trailer Hitch

Question:

Trailer frame strength aside, would you reccomend this hitch to pull a 12foot cargo trailer with a gvwr of 3500? I realize tongue weight would have to be kept below 350 lbs. I also realize my specs fall within the stated ability of the hitch. Due to my paranoia, I usually buy a hitch with more weight capability than I require.

I understand you wanting to be cautious when towing a trailer and wanting to make sure you do not have a problem.

If your trailer is kept at the 3,500 lbs or less and your tongue weight is kept under 350 lbs, you will have no problem with the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 13703 being able to handle the weight. I have attached a link to an installation video you can check out.

I have attached a link to the ball mounts we offer. I have also attached a helpful article that explains how to select the right ball mount for towing you might want to take a look at.

One technical note form Curt is that all non-trailer loads used with this hitch are required to use stabilizer straps like part # 18050.

You will want to make sure your RV is capable of the tongue and towing weight of the trailer. When towing anything you want to always stay within the range of the lowest rated component.
