Recommended Hitch-Mounted Carrier For Mobility Scooter On 2008 Honda Odyssey

Question:

I have a Honda Odyssey with OEM hitch that has a maximum tongue weight of 350lbs. My mobility scooter weighs 269 lbs and a hitch carrier will probably weigh120lbs this exceeding the tongue weight for the vehicle. Is it possible to increase the tongue weight in any way?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The lightest carrier we offer that has a ramp is the Flint Hill Goods Cargo Carrier, part # FHG67ZR. It is not possible to increase the tongue weight capacity on a vehicle.

This carrier weighs 54.5 lbs, which with the weight of your scooter at 269 totals 323.5 lbs. With this weight you are within the load capacity of your hitch at 350. If there is a way you can reduce the weight of the scooter, you could further reduce the load you place in the carrier if you wanted to. The inside dimensions for this carrier are 47" long x 27-3/4" wide x 7-3/4" deep, and the carrier features a 40 inch ramp.

If you need tie-downs to secure the scooter when towing I recommend Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps, part # EM34415.

I have attached links to some product reviews you can check out.
