Weight Distribution Hitch for 10-Foot Dump Trailer with a GVW of 11,000-lbs

Question:

I am looking for a wd hitch for my dump trailer but the tongue weight varies due to loads but empty trailer tongue weight is 300# with the batter and pump for the dump. I am thinking this hitch would work when carrying a load around max weight for trailer? Thank you

Weight distribution systems are meant to be "tuned" for a specific trailer tongue weight. This is because in order to do their job - pushing trailer tongue weight (TW) forward onto the truck's front axle - the system's spring bars have to have the correct stiffness. Systems too light for the TW load can't push the weight forward; systems too stiff will result in jumpy handling from the trailer.

Since your trailer TW will vary you'll need to choose a system rated correctly for your trailer's fully loaded maximum tongue weight. When you pull the empty trailer you'll just remove the spring bars to disengage the system.

You'll need to measure the fully-loaded trailer tongue weight to choose a system; see the linked artice. Your TW should fall into the range of 1100 - 1600-lbs (10 to 15 percent of gross trailer weight) so a system like the Curt # C17333 would work fine. This system works with both electric and surge trailer brakes.

All you need to add is the hitch ball, either 2-inch # A-90 or 2-5/16-inch ball # 19286.
