Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a North Trail 22FBS
Question:
Good morning, I am interested in purchasing a Weight Distribution Hitch that prevents sway. My trailer is a North Trail 22FBS. The GTW is 6900LB and the loaded TW is about 600LB. I am towing this trailer with a 2007 Ram 1500 crew cab 4x4. I was interested in the Curt 17500 Hitch. I was disappointed that it was only available with a 800-1000LB rating. Would this hitch be to much for my set-up? My second question is do you add the weight of the Spare Tire on the towing vehicle since it is mounted behind the rear axle?. My spare weighs about 90LB. Thank You!

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow like you mentioned. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle, but it does not include factory equipment like the spare tire. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
For a Curt system better rated for your 600 lbs of tongue weight you would want the part # FA92-00-0800 as it is designed for 400-800 lbs tongue weight.
