Can the Brackets of the Curt Hitch part # 13703 be Installed On Outside of Frame

Question:

I have I beams on my travel trailer. the bracket would be too wide to mount to the inside of my i beam, see picture. can you reverse the bracket and hang it on the out side of the i beam? this means the receiver on the brackets would be on the outside. they would be 70inch apart. how long is the bar that goes across. if it is 72 inches that means that the bar will only go 1 inch inside each receiver. is that enough to hold the weight?

I spoke with my contact at Curt about hitch # 13703 and he said that you can install the side brackets on the outside of an I-beam frame by turning them around. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view. The hitch can be bolted or welded on. If you choose to weld it on the welding should be done by a qualified professional.

The actual length of the main tube is 68-1/2 inches
