Brake Controller and Installation for a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
Hello, I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has a tow package. Is there a plug and play adapter to make installation easy? I am not comfortable running wires through the firewall. I have a 29ft 2 axle camper. Which brake controller do you recommend? Thank you

The only way to install a brake controller in your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is to hardwire it. There are no plug-in adapter options available.
You can use one of our kits, part # 5506 to install your brake controller. The kit includes a length of duplex cable to reach from the controller to the battery. The black wire connects to the positive battery terminal via a 30-amp circuit breaker that is included in the kit and the white wire would ground to the negative battery terminal. The red brake controller wire connects to the brake stoplight switch located at the top of the brake pedal. The stoplight switch will have several different wires exiting it, you will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to find the wire that only shows voltage when the brake pedal is pressed. Once you locate that circuit, tap the red wire into it.
I attached a video that details how to install a brake controller in a Grand Cherokee very similar to yours.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best-selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
