Recommended Class S Compatible Tire Chains For 2012 Toyota RAV4 With 225/65R17 Tires

Question:

It isnt clear to me whether these chains will work with my 2012 base model Rav4, four wheel drive, which has 225/65R17 tires on it. The owners manual specifies a 10 mm link width for the side chains and 14 mm width for the cross chains. If these dont work, could you recommend an alternative? I also am getting mixed advice on whether to put chains on all four tires or just the front. The owners manual says just the front wheels, but Ive seen a number of sites recommending putting chains on all four wheels. What do your recommend?

The Pewag Snox Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, part # PWSXV580 you referenced is designed to fit the 225/65R17 tires you have on your 2012 Toyota RAV4.

I measured the chains on this system and the width of the chains is 11.46 mm. You mentioned the owner's manual said the chains were to be 10 mm. These would be approximately 1/16 inch wider than you stated the manual said is needed.

For 4-wheel drive vehicles you can use 1 or 2 sets of chains. With only 1 set of chains, they are often placed on the rear wheels, but they can be used on the front for added steering and braking benefits.
