Wiring Harness Recommendation For 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
Question:
I purchased a trailer hitch, and a bike rack over the summer from etrailer. Very happy with your company and service. I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 2014. I want to add the electrical towing harness to tow a boat. I asked my local Jeep dealer for the information on installing the harness. the cost would be about $300 for the parts. Labor Not included. What would be the cost to purchase the harness and ease of installation.....Installing the trailer hitch was a breeze. Would this be doable or possible....

We do have a wiring harness that will work for your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The factory wiring harness will be terminated behind the rear bumper and may have a plug or cap. You can simply uncap the harness and plug an adapter like the Pollak 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector, part # HM40975. This will give you a 7-way and a 4-way connector at the rear of your Grand Cherokee.
If you do not have enough wire harness length with the Jeep connector you may want to take a look at the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # C55774. This gives you a little more working room than the Hopkins adapter and will still give you the same features of a 4-way and a 7-way at the rear of your Jeep. I have attached a link to an installation video for this harness on a Grand Cherokee you can check out.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
You asked if this was easy to install. Aside from mounting the bracket to the hitch or the best location for you, the installation is very simple as you can see in the attached videos. The price for any of the items we offer are located on the product page for the item.
If your Jeep did not come with the towing package you will have to take your Grand Cherokee to the dealership and have the computer flashed to activate the tow wiring.
