When I enter your 2011 Jeep Patriot into our fit guide, I show that all of the available hitches (see link to the options) require fascia trimming. The 2011 models have a 2 inch vertical fascia that will interfere with hitch installation.
Trimming is not as difficult as you might think, and you may have the tools you need already. You can use a utility knife to score the trim lines and aviator shears to make the 2 inch long cut on each side. Then, it is just a matter of bending the now... view full answer...

According to page 89 of the online version of the owner's manual for a 2016 Jeep Patriot it can be flat towed if it has a manual transmission with the transfer case placed in neutral and the key is left in the ACC position. I recommend checking out your copy of the owner's manual to verify this. If you have an automatic then you need to transport your Jeep with a trailer so all 4 wheels are off of the ground.
The equipment needed to flat tow your Patriot includes a base plate kit, tow... view full answer...
It sounds like what you are experiencing are weldnuts that are packed with grime and corrosion. This happens if a vehicle has seen at least 1 winter. You will need to clean out the weldnuts using a spray lubricant like WD-40, a wire brush like # DW00254, and some muscle. I have included some links that will explain and show you how to get the weldnuts cleaned out so you can install the bolts and hitch. view full answer...

You can reinstall the tow hook if present when installing trailer hitch # 75712 on a 2012 Jeep Patriot. You will have to drive out the knurled neck bolts on the tow hook. As with the installation of lights on a trailer, the lights must be grounded, either through the mounting hardware which is the case for many lights. As with trailer wiring the # RM-155 needs the bulbs to be grounded to the vehicle to complete the circuit.
It is true you get the ground from the towing vehicle but the in order for the circuit to be complete the towed vehicle wiring has to be grounded to the towed vehicle as well. I have attached a drawing from the installation instructions... view full answer...

Rear fascia trimming is required according to the instructions, see link, for trailer hitch # 75712 for the 2013 Jeep Patriot.
